You would typically think of a collision as the striking together of two objects such as two vehicles colliding with each other in an automobile accident.  When the collision occurs there are things that can be permanently changed.  Sure, there is also some change that can be put back the way that it used to be, but in a strong collision, integral parts of the vehicle, such as the frame are damaged, damaged so that they will never be the same again.

In church a week or so ago there was a teaching about the Kingdom of God colliding with earthly kingdoms – colliding such that things that typically are looked at as permant are altered.  Death is usually viewed as permanent, but in the illustration God reached out and shooed death away to allow a young boy to experience life again.

As I have been reading my bible I keep noticing that Jesus had this habit of colliding with others to change them permanemtly.  Not just surface change, but change that injects itself deep into the soul and spirit.  As I kept reading I realized that what Jesus was doing was outreach.  He didn’t have a building and tell everyone to come listen to him, to come to him to get what they wanted. No, that is not how Jesus operated at all.

Jesus got out on the street and met the common man.  The very God that created all of us stepped out of thye luxury of heaven to come here.  He put himself away and operated totally under the power of the Holy Spirit to show us how we can do the same as he.  He met the weak, the cripple, the downtrodden and so on.  Jesus was the ultimate outreach minister.  Associating with drunks, thieves, and just the plain not worthy(to man) Jesus showed us how to do outreach. Let’s follow Jesus and get up and out of our comfortable pews, meet the masses and do some outreach.
